Continuing our team spotlight series, we’re delighted to introduce Sandy Luddu from our Business Development team at Nucleus. Sandy brings a unique perspective on relationship building and growth within the fintech sector, sharing insights from her journey and the impact she’s making in the industry.

What inspired you to pursue a career in business development within the fintech space?

“While my entry into fintech wasn’t initially planned, my decision to stay and build a career in business development was very deliberate,” Sandy explains. “The sector’s focus on innovation and continuous growth perfectly aligns with my personal drive for constant improvement. My natural ability to understand and truly listen to people has proven invaluable in business development, where building genuine connections is paramount.”

Could you share your journey into fintech and what drew you to this industry?

Sandy’s path into fintech began with direct experience helping businesses secure funding solutions. “I developed a genuine passion for financial inclusivity early in my career,” she reflects. “Being able to assist entrepreneurs from diverse business backgrounds has been incredibly rewarding. What truly inspires me is hearing UK SMEs share their growth aspirations and witnessing how their hard work creates opportunities for future generations. These businesses aren’t just growing themselves; they’re creating jobs and learning opportunities that benefit the broader community.”

What’s been your most memorable success story in business development so far?

“One of my most significant experiences was working for a startup, which equipped me with the tenacity needed to join Nucleus during the launch of their new product,” Sandy shares. “The journey of helping rebuild Nucleus’s broker panel and watching the reputation and growth of its loan product soar has been my most memorable achievement thus far. It’s been incredibly rewarding to be part of this transformation and growth.”

How do you approach building relationships and creating opportunities in such a competitive sector?

Sandy’s approach to relationship building is refreshingly straightforward: “I put myself in our introducers’ and brokers’ shoes. Success in this field requires a deep understanding of the market and staying current with industry developments. However, equally important is understanding your introducers as individuals. Above all, maintaining honesty and transparency is absolutely crucial in building lasting relationships.”

Can you tell us when creative thinking helped you land a significant deal?

“Recently, I worked with a partner who was struggling to find a funding solution that aligned with their budget constraints,” Sandy recalls. “Instead of pursuing a standard approach, we collaborated to develop a creative solution. By carefully considering the client’s monthly budget and comfort level, we structured a staged funding plan. This involved a smaller initial amount with planned follow-up funding at 12 and 24 months, allowing the client to grow at a sustainable pace. This approach not only secured the deal but also established a long-term growth partnership.”

What advice would you offer someone aspiring to build a career in fintech business development?

Sandy emphasises the importance of authenticity: “As cliché as it might sound, being yourself is crucial. Authenticity shines through and enables you to maintain transparency and openness in all your professional relationships. Don’t hesitate to seek advice on building connections or request introductions from peers. The fintech community is generally very supportive, and there’s always something new to learn from others’ experiences.”

Closing Remarks

Sandy’s story shows how building real connections with people helps create success in fintech. She knows her market well and connects with people on a personal level, showing that both business know-how and people skills matter in this field.

Through her work, we can see why being creative and able to adapt is so important when helping clients. Her focus on being genuine and always learning sets a great example for anyone new to the industry.

At Nucleus, as we keep growing and coming up with new ideas, people like Sandy help us build strong relationships with our partners. Her story is one of many that shows how our team members bring different skills and ideas to make Nucleus stand out in fintech.

Keep an eye out for more great stories about our team at Nucleus!
