Her ability to see beyond standard solutions and create meaningful partnerships with brokers has been instrumental in Nucleus’s growth. We sat down with Olivia to learn about her journey, her approach to the evolving financial landscape, and what drives her passion for connecting people with opportunities.

You’ve been in business development for many years. What still gets you excited about coming to work?

Every day is different. Business development is all about building relationships and spotting new opportunities; both of which are always evolving. Every broker brings in a new challenge, and I love the strategic thinking involved in finding tailored solutions that deliver real value. It’s the perfect mix of people, problem-solving, and progress.

Why did you choose Nucleus, and how has your journey been?

I was drawn to Nucleus because of its strong reputation for innovation and its genuine focus on people, not just brokers, but in their own team too. That’s rare. Since joining, I’ve been given room to grow, collaborate with talented colleagues, and work on exciting initiatives that align with my values. It’s been a rewarding journey so far.

Nucleus has transformed significantly. What aspect of that evolution excites you the most?

Watching how Nucleus has adapted and thrived through change has been incredible. For me, the most exciting part has been how we’ve embraced technology and data-driven insights to enhance the client experience. It’s empowering to be part of a forward-thinking organisation that doesn’t shy away from transformation.

Can you share a defining moment that shaped how you work with clients?

We encountered a complex case where a broker presented a solution that didn’t fit our standard offerings. Instead of trying to squeeze them into an existing box, our teams collaborated to create something entirely new. That collaboration not only delivered great results but also reminded me how powerful it is to lead with curiosity and listen first. It changed how I approach every new broker relationship.

How do you stay current in such a fast-paced industry?

Staying ahead means never standing still. I dedicate time each week to reading industry insights and connecting with peers across different sectors. But the real secret is staying close to brokers themselves. They’re often the first to spot shifts in client behaviour or market needs. Understanding their evolving challenges is the best crystal ball we have for anticipating what’s coming next.

What’s been your most significant professional challenge here?

One of the biggest challenges was leading a high-stakes pitch. The pressure was intense, and it pushed every skill I had: time management, communication, and resilience. But it also taught me the value of leaning on the team and staying calm under pressure. We delivered, and I came out of it more confident and better prepared for future challenges.

Sometimes the biggest challenges create the biggest growth.

Nucleus is known for its collaborative culture. How do you contribute to that?

Culture is something we all contribute to. I try to bring positive energy, celebrate team wins, and check in with colleagues regularly. Whether that’s mentoring someone new to simply acknowledging great work, those small interactions build the foundation for everything else.

Work-life balance is crucial in high-pressure roles. How do you manage it?

I’ve learned that setting clear boundaries and prioritising time for rest is key. I’m intentional about planning downtime, making space for hobbies, and disconnecting when I need to recharge. I love the gym (I know…boring), I’m also hugely passionate about football, cooking, or just simply spending time with family and friends.  

This is what makes me better at work. A balanced life makes me better at my job and more present outside of work, too.

Looking ahead, what excites you most about Nucleus’s future?

What excites me most is the opportunity to help shape what’s next. We’re exploring new markets, deepening our broker relationships, and continuously evolving our service offerings. What motivates me is knowing that we have this incredible potential as a team, and I get to play a part in that growth story. The best chapters are still being written.
